10 days til production
Production on our latest short crept up on all of us faster than we could have imagined. We’ve all been hard at work storyboarding, researching lights, researching costumes, building sets, scouring for props and rehearsing, rehearsing, rehearsing. Every time we film I tell myself we’re going to move to a traditional film style of rehearsing, which tends to be less early on and more heavy on set. However, my comfort as a director seems to almost directly relate to how close we are to getting it during pre-production. Then, when it comes time to film, I’m usually fairly comfortable with each scene enough so that rehearsals on set, aside from blocking exercises to show the crew, are pretty light.
That being said, last night we had one of our last rehearsals before production begins and decide to film it. It was a great help in conveying to the actors what was working and what needed tweaking. We’ve also been very fortunate to rehearse at Minorwhite Studios‘ space, which has been a dream.
Tonight, one-on-ones with the actors.
Thursday a night off for everyone as I get schedules/shot lists ready.
Friday, another pre-production meeting with the whole crew.
